HOUSE + SHED HOME DRAFTING WA
From a blank block, a house idea or a kit shed — let’s turn it into a home.
Building a new home? Bought a kit shed and wondering how to make part or all of it residential? Maybe you’ve already sketched your dream floor plan on graph paper and now need someone to turn it into something you can actually build.
That’s where I come in.
I provide residential drafting and design for new homes, shed homes, liveable sheds and shouses, with a particular interest in helping owner-builders turn their ideas into properly resolved plans for their site.
If you’re working with a kit shed, I can take the structural information supplied by the shed company and design the home around it — the floor plan, internal walls, windows and doors, wet areas, building envelope and the architectural documentation needed for the next stages of your project.
And if you’re building a conventional home? I do those too.
Not sure where to start?
You might be asking:
What drawings do I actually need?
Will my idea work on my block?
Can I turn this kit shed into a home?
What does the shed company design — and what do I need someone else to design?
What about insulation, condensation, windows, bathrooms and energy efficiency?
What do I need for planning and building approval?
You don’t need to have all of that worked out before you contact me.
Send me what you’ve got and we’ll work out the next step.
WA-wide drafting service | Perth + Great Southern | Owner-builders welcome

Already bought your kit shed?
Perfect.
You don’t need to start again.
Send me what your supplier has given you.
I’ll review the shed drawings, engineering information and your ideas for the house and work from there.
We can keep as much of the original kit as possible while resolving the residential part around it.
The aim isn’t to turn your simple shed home into some over-designed architectural masterpiece that blows the budget.
It’s to create a home that is:
simple. practical. buildable. comfortable. and properly documented.

Haven’t bought the kit yet? Even better.
Getting me involved before you order the shed can save a lot of headaches.
It’s much easier to move a portal frame, change a window location or adjust the overall dimensions while it’s still a drawing than after the steel has arrived on your block.
I can help you look at your proposed kit before you commit and consider how well it will work as a house.
Because the cheapest shed isn’t necessarily the cheapest house.
Got an existing shed you want to live in?
This is a little different.
A standard shed is generally built as a non-habitable Class 10a building. Turning it into residential accommodation can mean demonstrating that the building can satisfy the requirements applicable to a dwelling.
Sometimes that’s completely achievable.
Sometimes the upgrades required make it far less attractive.
Before spending thousands on drawings and consultants, let’s work out whether the idea makes sense.
Shed-to-home feasibility review
From $495
Send me your existing shed information, photos, property details and whatever drawings you have.
I’ll review what you’ve got and identify the major things that are likely to need further investigation before you commit to a full documentation package.
This isn’t engineering certification or a building approval — it’s an early sanity check so you know what you’re getting yourself into.
What I can do for you
SHOUSE + KIT SHED APPROVAL DRAWINGS
From $3,950
You already have a shed or kit design and need to turn it into a properly documented home.
Your package may include, depending on the project:
Site plan • Floor plans • Roof plan • Elevations • Building sections • Internal layouts • Window and door information • Construction notes • Wet-area layouts • Building materials • Relevant architectural details • Coordination with your shed supplier and consultants.
EXISTING SHED → HOME DOCUMENTATION
Generally from $5,500
Already have a shed and want to investigate converting it into residential accommodation?
These projects generally require more investigation because we’re working with an existing structure rather than starting with a clean sheet.
I’ll document the existing and proposed building and coordinate the architectural drawings with the other specialists required for your project.
Who is this for?
This service is particularly suited to people who are:
Owner-building
You don’t necessarily want a project-home builder. You want to manage the project yourself and need a proper set of drawings to work from.
Buying a shed or steel-frame kit
You’ve got supplier drawings but they’re not a complete residential documentation package.
Building regionally
You’re building in the regional WA and need someone who is perfectly happy working remotely with you, your local council and your consultants.
Keeping things simple
You’re not looking for a $40,000 architectural design process.
You want a well-thought-out house that can actually be built.
Hi, I’m Tenae.
And despite the website address you may have just landed on, I’m not only a wedding photographer.
My weekday world has looked very different for a very long time.
I’ve spent more than 25 years working in the enginerring industry and my qualifications include a Diploma in Architectural Drafting and a Higher National Certificate in Civil and Structural Engineering.
So I’m very comfortable reading structural drawings, working around steel framing, coordinating consultant information and turning a design into drawings that other people can actually understand and build from.
I’m also an owner-builder myself.
And that has given me a whole other education.
I’ve dealt with earthworks, levels, drainage, septic, slabs, shed construction, insulation, wall build-ups, windows, doors, engineers, suppliers and all the decisions that somehow appear after you’ve already made 400 other decisions that week.
So I understand the owner-builder side of this as well as the drafting side.
I’m not interested in making the process more complicated than it needs to be.
I want to help you work out what you actually need and get on with building it.
You don’t need another shed salesperson.
You need someone who understands how buildings actually go together.
Most shed companies are really good at one thing:
the shed.
They’ll give you portal frames, roof sheets, wall cladding, engineering and a slab design.
But once you want to put a kitchen, bathroom, bedrooms, insulation, windows, doors and actual humans inside it, things get a little more complicated.
A residential building needs to be considered as a whole.
That means looking at things like:
- your site and floor levels
- orientation and layout
- internal walls
- doors and windows
- insulation and condensation
- weatherproofing
- bathroom and wet areas
- ceiling and roof construction
- energy-efficiency requirements
- engineering
- bushfire requirements where applicable
- wastewater/septic where applicable
- planning requirements
- and the documentation needed for a building permit.
I bring all of that together into one coordinated drawing package.

How it works
01 — Send me what you’ve got
Your kit drawings, sketches, site survey, property address, Pinterest masterpieces, scribbles and sketches — whatever stage you’re at.
02 — I’ll work out what’s missing
I’ll review the information and talk you through the likely documentation and consultants required for your particular project.
03 — We sort out the design
If the layout needs work, we’ll develop it together.
I’m not going to dictate how you should live in your house.
I’ll point out the things that don’t work, suggest better options and help you get the most out of the structure you’ve chosen.
04 — I prepare the drawings
Once the design is resolved, I’ll produce the architectural/drafting documentation for your project.
05 — We coordinate the other bits
Where required, your project may also involve a structural engineer, energy assessor, building surveyor, surveyor, BAL consultant, wastewater designer or other specialist.
06 — You’re ready for the next stage
Depending on your project, that may be planning approval, building certification/building permit or further consultant documentation.
What isn’t included?
I’d rather be really clear about this from the beginning.
I’m providing residential design and drafting services.
I’m not pretending to be every consultant involved in constructing a house.
Specialist services such as structural engineering, land surveying, energy assessments, BAL assessments, geotechnical reports, wastewater design, building surveying/certification and government application fees are generally separate
Frequently asked shouse questions
Can I just buy a shed and put bedrooms in it?
Not automatically.
A normal shed is generally a non-habitable building. Once you’re creating residential accommodation, different requirements come into play.
That’s why it makes sense to work this out before buying everything.
My shed company has already given me plans. Why do I need more drawings?
You might not need as much as you think.
I’ll look at what they’ve provided first.
Some suppliers provide quite comprehensive documentation. Others primarily provide drawings and engineering for the shed structure itself.
I’ll work with what you already have rather than unnecessarily recreating it.
Can you work with any shed company?
Generally, yes.
I’m not tied to a particular shed or kit-home supplier.
In fact, that’s one of the advantages.
You choose the kit that suits you.
Can you design around portal frames?
Absolutely.
And this is one area where my structural drafting background is particularly useful.
Instead of pretending the steel structure isn’t there, we design around it.
Will you deal with council for me?
I can prepare and coordinate the architectural documentation required for the appropriate approval pathway and can assist with responses relating to my drawings.
Exactly who formally lodges the application can vary between projects, councils and whether you’re using a building surveyor, so we’ll establish that at the beginning.
Can you guarantee my project will be approved?
No one should really promise you that.
Planning, building certification and specialist approvals are determined by the relevant authorities and professionals.
What I can do is prepare clear documentation, identify the likely requirements early and coordinate the information properly.
What software do you use?
My professional background is heavily BIM-based, so these aren’t basic 2D sketches dressed up as construction drawings.
Your project is properly documented and coordinated.
